The IMVT congratulates Prof. h.c. Dr.-Ing. Pius Trautmann on receiving the honorary professorship at the University of Stuttgart.
Prof. Pius Trautmann, born in Ravensburg, studied Process Engineering at the University of Stuttgart from 1985 to 1992. As a student member of the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Process Engineering and the Grand Senate, as well as on the Administrative Board of the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart AdöR, he was an active participant in university life during his studies.
After graduating with a Diploma in Engineering, Prof. Trautmann worked as a scientific employee at the IMVT from 1992 to 1999. In addition to his research activities, he also devoted himself to teaching and was responsible for the lectures “Strömungs- und Partikelmesstechnik” (Flow and Particle Measurement Technology) and “Umweltschutztechnik" (Environmental Protection Technology). In January 1999, he received his PhD with distinction under Prof. habil. Dr.-Ing. Piesche (former head of the IMVT) on the subject "Tomographische Bestimmung des Mischverhaltens von Gegenstrom-Injektions-Mischern" (Tomographic determination of the mixing behavior of countercurrent injection mixers).
At the beginning of 2000, Prof. Trautmann joined Mann+Hummel GmbH in Ludwigsburg and a remarkable professional career followed: after five years as team leader for the development of air filter elements and crankcase ventilation systems, he became department head for the development of passenger compartment filter elements at the company location in Marklkofen. He then took over as department head of the liquid filter element development division and subsequently became head of the Engineering Truck Business department, as well as head of the development of liquid filter systems for heavy-duty and industrial applications. Since 2019, he has been head of the development of liquid filter systems and since 2023 also head of the development of gas-to-gas humidifiers for fuel cell applications.
In addition to his career in industry, Prof. Pius Trautmann has been teaching at the University of Stuttgart since 2000. Since the summer semester 2011, he has been a lecturer for the lecture “Mechanical Process Engineering” in the WASTE course and since the winter semester 2011/2012 for the lecture “Automotive Filtration” in the Process Engineering course. Until today, he has supervised numerous student research projects and diploma theses as well as Bachelor's and Master's theses, mainly in collaboration with the IMVT. Moreover, he has also been teaching internationally since 2019 as a lecturer for “Mechanical Process Engineering and Filtration” at the Yuchai Academy in Yulin (China).
Prof. Trautmann is actively involved in scientific publications - especially together with the IMVT. In addition to a large number of publications in journals and conference proceedings, he is also the owner or co-owner of more than 50 patent families.
We cordially congratulate Prof. Pius Trautmann on receiving the honorary professorship at the University of Stuttgart and look forward to continuing our successful and valuable collaboration with him as a lecturer and industrial partner of our institute.
